Spring Lake Star: Seven children from one family in Hand county, have died this spring from diphtheria. The family lived in a sod house, having a cellar, which was filled with turnips last fall and froze during the winter. Instead of removing them and purifying the cellar, they were allowed to decay. It is supposed the poison from the decaying turnips, created and fed the dread disease and caused the death of those children.
