Don Slyter, a young man about 23 years of age, who lives between Dunseith and Omemee, came over last week to shoot rabbits with Wm. Hooker whose home is at Dion Lake about nine miles west of St. John. Last Thursday young Slyter got on a hay rack with a loaded gun, and in drawing it toward him the gun was discharged, the charge taking effect in the left side of his head, tearing away part of the skull. Dr. Verret was immediately sent for, but finding the case a very serious one, decided to send the unfortunate man to Dr. Jones at Devils Lake. He was taken down Friday. At last accounts he was still living, but in a precarious condition.
