Four Men Frozen.
Last week was a hard one on the extension. Con Casey, a saloon-keeper, at the end of the track, was frozen to death and the day before Christmas three others. Dave Hall, John Gallagher, and John Monahan were found frozen stiff near Young Man's Butte. They were attempting to walk to the end of the track from the Bad Lands. They had considerable money on their persons. Their bodies were burried near the Butte.

Little Geraldine Espe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Espe was quite seriously burned about the face and hands Friday morning when she fell on the furnace register. The accident occurred when she was sitting in her carriage and her little brother who is almost 2 years old was playing with her when the carriage was near the register. One of the front wheels came off and the carriage tipped enough to throw the baby on her face onto the register. A blanket fell from the carriage, covering the little tot, and holding the heat about her body. She was rushed to the
Rolette hospital, where first aid was administered. At this time she is getting along nicely.

Woman Takes Own Life; Ill Health Cause.
Napoleon, N.D. Dec 11 — The family and neighbors of Louisa Stoecker, wife of Johannes Stoecker residing seven miles northeast of Lehr, were shocked upon learning that Mrs. Stoecker had taken her own life.
Mr. and Mrs. Stoecker arose at 7 a.m. They intended to go to Lehr that day. She started preparation of the morning meal and he went to the barn to do the chores. Their six children, the eldest fourteen and the youngest four, were still asleep up stairs when Mr. Stoecker left the house.
After a half hour had passed Mr Stoecker started from the barn to the house. At that moment his daughter, Otillia, thirteen, appeared and asked "Is mother at the barn?" The father replied, "No," and a search was made at once, resulting in finding the unfortunate woman hanging on a 4x6 center support in the cellar of their summer house nearby. Mr Stoecker severed the rope and himself and daughter carried the lifeless woman to the top of the cellar stairs. All efforts to restore her were unsuccessful.
Mrs Stoecker had used a cow barn tie rope, which she run through a small shawl around her neck and tied to a big spike on the post, having stood upon a small keg and then, evidently, having leaped from or kicked the keg away and strangled herself to death.
The unfortunate woman had been in poor health for the past two years.

The school teacher at
Center, Miss Olive Ward, travels ten miles to fulfill her duties, acts as her own janitor, builds the fire to warm the youngsters when they arrive and sweeps and dusts the school room—and the manly ducks who form the school board of the district are after the man who had the audacity to suggest the employment of a janitor.

Escape from Ramsey Jail
Devils Lake, N.D., Jan 10.—While the sheriff's office was vacant for a short time, two prisoners, Williams and Johnson, made their escape.
They passed through the jail doors by means of wooden keys and climbed through the office window, tracks in the snow showing that one went south and one west. The deputy sheriff came in shortly afterward and was informed by the other prisoners of the proceedings. At once a large force under Sheriff McLean and Chief Barnes got to work and Williams was soon found. Nothing further has been heard of Johnson, except that he changed clothes in an old building near his former home.
