TERRIBLE SCALDING CAUSED LITTLE GIRL'S DEATH

Pulled Tea Kettle From the Stove Spilling Contents Over Body

Tracie, the 3-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs Steener Steenerson, of Carthage, who was scalded Wednesday evening when she pulled a kettle of boiling water from the stove and spilled its contents over her little body, died about 2 o'clock this morning.

The child was playing about the kitchen of the Steenerson home, three miles from this city, and in some way the tea kettle caught her fancy. She reached up and pulled it off of the stove, the boiling water spilling all over her body. Her parents were close at hand and did everything possible to relieve her.

Early Thursday morning she was brought to the city and her wounds and injuries dressed, being taken home about 10 o'clock. About 6 o'clock the child's condition became worse and she was brought to the city, being taken to the Deaconess hospital in Grand Forks, where she died about 2 o'clock in the morning. The remains will be taken to Mekinock on Saturday where the funeral will be held Sunday.

ALBERT GRAY SENT TO PEN FOR ATTEMPTING TO SHOOT YOUNG GIRL

Fargo, N.D., July 31.—Albert Gray, 22 years old, a teamster, who threatened the life of Miss Sarah Calton, 17 years, because she refused to marry him, was sentenced to two years in the state penitentiary when arraigned before Judge A. T. Cole. Following the shooting affair which occurred on Wednesday, June 20, Gray has been a prisoner in the Cass county jail in default of $5,000 bonds fixed by Judge R. F. Miller before whom the preliminary examination was held. Gray was arrested by Chief of Police Malvey, who found the revolver and a bottle of whiskey on the man.

Miss Calton spurned his love and this is believed to have prompted the shooting. The bullet just missed her by about eight inches, striking the panel of the door near which she was standing.

According to the story told by the girl on the witness stand at the time of the preliminary hearing, Gray had threatened her life on several previous occasions, one time he chasing her about the house with a razor in his hand, threatening to take her life with it unless she submitted to his request and marry him.
